Here are practical tips to avoid the heat when visiting Da Nang and Hoi An in the summer (May–August, when temperatures can hit 35–40°C):
🌅 1. Time Your Outdoor Activities
Go out early (5:30 AM – 9:30 AM) and late afternoon (4:30 PM – sunset) for sightseeing, walking, or beach activities.
Avoid midday (10 AM – 3 PM) unless you're indoors.
🧴 2. Use Sunscreen & Sun Protection
Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 50+ and reapply every 2–3 hours.
Wear UV-blocking sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and lightweight long sleeves for skin protection.
🧃 3. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water (not just iced tea or beer).
Bring a reusable bottle and fill it at hotels or cafes.
Consider electrolyte packets or coconut water to replenish minerals.
🏖️ 4. Cool Off at the Beach
Visit My Khe Beach (Da Nang) or An Bang Beach (Hoi An) early morning or late afternoon.
Beaches are usually breezier and cooler than the city center.
🏛️ 5. Visit Indoor Attractions Midday
Head to air-conditioned spots during the hottest hours:
Da Nang: Cham Museum, cafes, Vincom mall, or spa.
Hoi An: Ancient houses, art galleries, or get a local massage.
☂️ 6. Use a UV Umbrella or Portable Fan
Locals often carry sun umbrellas—you should too.
A portable USB fan or mini misting fan can be surprisingly helpful.
🥗 7. Eat Light & Stay Cool
Choose light meals like fresh spring rolls, rice noodles, or smoothies.
Try cooling Vietnamese drinks like:
Nước mía (sugarcane juice)
Chè (Vietnamese sweet dessert soups)
Trà đá (iced tea, usually free in eateries)
🛵 8. Rent a Scooter or Use Taxis
Walking is tough in the heat. Rent a scooter with phone holder (for navigation) or use Grab for air-conditioned transport.
🏨 9. Book a Hotel with a Pool
Many hotels in both cities offer pools—perfect for escaping the midday heat.
🎫 10. Schedule Photography or Tours Strategically
For photos, sunrise in Hoi An Ancient Town or sunset near the riverside is both cooler and beautifully lit.
Cooking classes, lantern-making, or basket boat tours are better done in the early morning or late afternoon.
