Tips for budget travel but still have fun when coming to Hoi An
Hoi An is a great destination and you can fully enjoy your trip without spending too much money.
Here are some tips to help you travel to Hoi An economically but still have fun!
1. Choose a reasonable time to travel - Go in the low season
- Avoid the high season (June - August) because prices often increase.
- Go in the low season (September - November), the weather is pleasant, there are fewer visitors, room rates and services are also cheaper.
2. Stay in a cheap homestay or hostel
- Hoi An has many lovely homestays, priced from 200,000 - 400,000 VND/night.
- Some homestays also provide free bicycles for you to ride around the old town.
- If you go in a large group, you can rent a small apartment or villa to split the cost, which will be cheaper than staying in a hotel.

3. Travel economically
- Walk or rent a bicycle (~50,000 - 100,000 VND/day) to slowly explore the old town and enjoy its ancient beauty.
- Rent a motorbike (~120,000 - 250,000 VND/day) if you want to go further, such as Da Nang, An Bang beach, Cua Dai or Bay Mau coconut forest...
- Take the bus from Da Nang to Hoi An for only about 30,000 VND/trip, more economical than a taxi or technology car.
- Avoid taking a cyclo if you want to save money, as the price is usually quite high (~150,000 - 200,000 VND/trip).
4. Eat delicious - nutritious - cheap
- Enjoy street food such as banh mi, Quang noodles, popular rice, cao lau... from only 20,000 - 50,000 VND. Pay attention to hygiene when eating away from home. Choose a restaurant with a lot of customers, clearly listed prices, clean space and food.
- Drink coffee on the sidewalk instead of a fancy restaurant, the price is about 10,000 - 25,000 VND/cup.
- Buy mineral water at private grocery stores or vending machines instead of buying at tourist attractions to save money.

5. Experience low-cost or free travel but still great
- Watch the sunset on the Hoai River, take beautiful photos without spending a penny. You may need to pay a parking fee to enter the old town because the old town. Parking fees range from 5,000 VND (motorbike) - 30,000 VND (car). If you need to buy a ticket to visit the old town, the ticket price ranges from 80,000 (Vietnamese tourists) - 120,000 VND (International tourists).
- Releasing flower lanterns costs from 5,000 - 10,000 VND/1 flower lantern.
- Swimming at An Bang, Tan Thanh or Cua Dai beaches is free. Please note that areas with notices prohibiting swimming or deserted areas. You may need to pay a small fee if you park your vehicle or take a fresh water bath.
- Watch Bai Choi singing at the performance area at the intersection of Nguyen Thai Hoc - Bach Dang streets in the evening in the old town without paying a ticket.
- Join a lantern making or cooking class, the price is only about 100,000 - 200,000 VND.
